Cafe Mogador’s Orange Blossom Gin Gimlet

Serves 2 • Time 5 mins

For years, this was my favorite cocktail at the infamous East Village favorite, Cafe Mogador. Then, of course, one day it disappeared from the menu, never to be seen or heard from again. That’s the bad news. The good news is now, whether you live in NYC or not, you can make this cocktail for yourself at home! This cocktail is a little tart, barely sweet, and definitely floral. It pairs incredibly well with middle eastern food, and is even better all alone.

If I had to choose one cocktail to drink for the rest of time, this would be it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz good quality gin

  • 2 oz lime juice

  • 1 oz hot water

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom water*

  • Ice

Notes, Tips, & Tricks:

You may also serve this drink in a highball with a splash of club soda, if you wish.

*Orange blossom water can be found at middle eastern markets, some Whole Foods and of course, online.

Let’s Do It

Step 1

Make a honey simple syrup by stirring together the hot water and honey until well mixed. You should have almost exactly 2oz of honey simple syrup when finished.

Step 2

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add in gin, lime juice, honey syrup, and orange blossom water. Shake until cold. Strain into glasses with ice. Enjoy.
